How should I dress for my session?

Clothing should fit you well and be comfortable. Clothing that is too tight or too baggy will not photograph well, especially around the neck. Clothes should be clean and neatly pressed. Avoid large patterns and large lines/stripes. Just wearing a white dress shirt is not always a good choice, as it absorbs light and emphasizes size. White works best when matched with a jacket or something with color. Black or warmer color tones tend to be more slimming and diverts attention to your smile. If you aren’t sure, bring a few selections with you the day of your session and your photographer can help you choose.

If you are planning a haircut or color, this should be scheduled 3-5 days before your session so that you’ll look your best that day.

If you wear glasses, please ensure they have a non-glare lens. If not, consider not wearing them for your portraits. Be aware that transition lenses will darken under the studio lights, so bring a different pair if necessary.

Men: The standard look is a suit jacket, dress shirt and tie, while casual gravitates toward an open collar, or a tie with no jacket. Polo shirts are also a good casual look. Wearing a t-shirt for your portrait depends on your business models, but if you do, make sure that it is in good condition and avoid graphic tees.  Avoid large statement watches or jewelry, as they can reflect light. If it is important to have the piece in your images, please let the photographer know.

Plan to shave before your session as we cannot edit out stubble.

For your portraits, you can use makeup concealer to hide blemishes and imperfections.

Ladies: Before your session, be sure to look at your top in a mirror, focusing mid-chest up. If your neckline is too high, it may make your face appear rounder. If your neckline is too low, it may draw attention away from your smile.

For accessories, simple is always better when it comes to earrings and necklaces. Avoid wrist jewelry such as bracelets or watches, as they can reflect light. If it is important to have the piece in your images, please let the photographer know.

Use makeup as concealment to hide blemishes and imperfections and not for enhancement. Avoid extended lashes, colored eyeshadow, and bright vivid lipstick colors. How many images do you usually take during a session?

There are a lot of factors that dictate this answer. Some people might need only 30 images before they get the look they are after. Other's require 70 or more, as some need a little more time opening up to the photographer and camera.
